Anthony Joshua Will Get a Title Rematch This Year

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will get the opportunity to fight for the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts after Eddie Hearn, his promoter, confirmed that a rematch will take place later this year.

Anthony Joshua suffered a shocking defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. on June 2 at Madison Square Garden . The fight was keenly contested, but the referee stopped it in the seventh round after Joshua seemed concussed.

However, Hearn has come to point out that the terms of the fight contained a rematch clause. Per the promoter, Joshua has activated the clause and will have the rematch later this year.

On June 4, he tweeted, saying, “After meetings with AJ, Rob Mc and the management team in NY, we have today triggered the contracted rematch clause with Andy Ruiz Jnr.

“The fight will take place in Nov/Dec at a venue to be confirmed shortly.”

Hearn didn’t announce the location of the fight just yet. However, analysts have predicted either the United Kingdom or Mexico to be the location.
