About four years removed from its official announcement, the first all-electric vehicle from luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin has finally been revealed.
The Aston Martin Rapide sedan (called the Rapid E) is the electric version of the company’s gas-powered Rapide S vehicle. It was officially revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 16, and while the company didn’t announce the car’s price, it was revealed that only 155 vehicles would be made.
The company’s designers and engineers implemented slight alterations to the sleek four-door vehicle to help enhance its aerodynamic properties. Since electric vehicles don’t need as much air as gas-powered vehicles, the grill of the Rapide E was altered to accommodate less air. The area under the vehicle’s exterior was built to make air pass underneath it smoothly.
The vehicle is powered by a 65kWh (602 horsepower) , 800-volt engine, and it can travel over an estimated 200 miles on a single charge. It has a top speed of 155 miles per hour, and it has twin motors mounted at its real axle, which generate 450kWh of power.
The company claimed that the vehicle will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4 seconds, and it can be charged at a rate of 310 miles per hour.
