Chocolate City Music Group , one of Africa’s largest record labels and entertainment companies, has announced a partnership with American record label conglomerate and music company Warner Music Group .
Announcing the deal on March 28, Chocolate City President Audu Maikori stated that the deal was birthed with an aim to grow the reach of African artists all over the world and create opportunities for global expansion.
Temi Adeniji , Director for International Strategy and Operations at Warner Music, was also ecstatic about the deal, saying that the global music house has come to recognize Nigeria as one of the most exciting markets in the world, as well as the role of Chocolate City in building the industry.
Chocolate City, whose lineup includes veteran afro musician Femi Kuti , ace rappers M.I and Ice Prince , as well as budding young talents like CKay , Blaqbonez , and Dice Ailes , will now become a part of Warner’s catalog and receive the full support of the company’s artist and distribution services through ADA , its independent label services division.
The deal includes a strategic marketing agreement with WMG South Africa , with an aim of broadening the reach of Chocolate City’s artists. Warner is also expected to invest financially in Chocolate City and assist the latter in in signing and developing local talent.
