Lionel Messi has etched his name in the history books once again, becoming the first man to win the European Golden Boot six separate times.
The award, which is presented to the highest goal scorer in the top 5 European leagues, look set to be presented to the Argentine maestro for an unprecedented sixth time after Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, his closest rival, failed to match up in his side’s last same of the season.
Messi scored 36 goals in La Liga this season. Mbappe came behind him in the Golden Boot rankings, after racking up 33 goals for Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain. Fabio
Quagliarella rounded up the top three, as he netted 26 goals for Serie A side Sampdoria.
Quagliarella could still add up to his tally, as his side has a game left to play in the league. However, given that he’s 10 goals behind Messi, it’s safe to say that the Golden Boot would be presented to the Argentine legend for this year.
As stated earlier, this would be the sixth time that Messi would be lifting the Golden Boot. He is set to be the first person to lift the award three times in a row as well.
Another season, another record for arguably the best player in the world.
