Earlier this week, Russell Orhii, Nigerian-American powerlifter, became the World powerlifting Champion. His status as the world’s strongest man was confirmed after he powered through an 83kg weightlifting session. As expected, his exploits amazed everyone at the 2019 World Powerlifting Championship in Sweden.
Russell Orhii is Nigerian by birth. His father, Dr. Paul Orhii, is a top Nigerian politician and former Director-General of the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The 25-year-old athlete has competed for the prize over the past three years. However, be broke into the limelight in 2018 when he won the silver medal. He already holds the title of American champion. Yesterday, he added another medal to his enviable, sprawling collection.
In a message expressing his pride, Russell’s father claimed that he was overjoyed at his son’s latest achievement. He also wished him all the best going forward.
He said in part, “My son is very hardworking and I wish him all the best in his career. He continues to do Tiv nation and Nigeria proud.”
Russell also took to his Twitter handle to show gratitude to everyone who has been with him all grouch his journey. He simply said that he “Couldn’t have done it” without them.
