It’s been a tough few days for fans of the Seattle Seahawks , but things can get back on track now that it has been reported that their star quarterback, Russell Wilson , isn’t going anywhere.
Wilson had set an April 16 deadline for the club to come up with a new deal to tie him down. Just a few minutes after the clock struck midnight on the day, he tweeted a video announcing that both parties had reached a deal, permanently putting to rest any speculations that he could be headed out of the club anytime soon.
Multiple sources confirmed that Wilson’s contract extension will see him earn $140 million over the next four years , along with a $65 million signing bonus .
His new $35 million-a-year pay will see him become the highest-paid player in the NFL, surpassing the $33.5 million annual pay earned by Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers .
Various trade rumors have surrounded Wilson for weeks now. He had been linked to the New York Giants , who themselves recently traded star Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. , less than a year after signing him to a 5-year, $95 million contract.
However, with a new contract reportedly sealed, and his new status as the highest-paid player in the league, Wilson- and all of the Seahawks fans- will be looking to start a new chapter and work towards challenging for a Super Bowl next season.
