Worn by everyone from Jeff Goldblum to Odell Beckham Jr and Frank Ocean, Prada is a global fashion powerhouse. The same goes for Adidas: having been at the centre of the sportswear industry since 1949, the German brand has gone from strength to strength in recent years, scoring collaborations with the likes of Fiorucci, Palace Skateboards and Pharrell Williams.
Now, in a surprise move, the two mega brands are joining forces. The new collaborative journey will investigate the realms of heritage, technology and innovation; drawing on both brands’ rich creative archives to produce a series of reinvented classics. A souped-up Prada take on a classic Stan Smith? Here’s hoping.
Though both brands undoubtedly sit in different fields – Prada at the hard-edged helm of luxury and Adidas being arguably the biggest sportswear brand in the world – both labels share a mutual interest in technological advancement (take, for instance, Prada’s recent Re-Nylon collection) and, as a consequence, this collaboration is set to be one built on the fusion of fashion and performance.
But you don’t have to wait long to see what they have in store: at the beginning of next month the first Prada x Adidas gear will be released. The first step of the journey will see the drop of two limited-edition Prada x Adidas footwear styles, made by Prada in Italy) which draw on the rich iconography of both brands.
The flash point of the collaborative explosion will come in 2020 with the launch of some new Luna Rossa performance sailing footwear, which you can expect to be as high performance as it will be haute fashion (and totally sexy with it, too).
