In a month that began with Arsenal winning the FA Cup ends with Arsenal clinching the Community shield at Wembley. Arsenal have won their second trophy in the space of 8 months under Mikel Arteta.
Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang found the breakthrough goal in the 12th minute,connecting well onto Nigerian sensation Bukayo Saka’s diagonal pass.
The stunner of a goal was celebrated with the ‘Wakanda Forever’ salute by Aubameyang, a tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer at the age of 43. The ‘Wakanda Forever’ salute has become a symbol of black excellence since being performed by Boseman’s character in the Black Panther movie.
The equaliser for Liverpool came in the second half after Substitute Takumi Minamino scored his first goal for the club in the 72nd minute. The match ended in penalties and Arsenal’s player’s delivered their second trophy under Arteta. Rhian Brewster missed the spot kick that saw the gunners win 5-4.
The match was played in an empty Wembley stadium due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. The community shield serves as curtain-raiser for the English Premier League that kicks off on September 12th.
